Technological capabilities

The institute has research and transfer expertise in various fields, including aspects of: fluid mechanics, molecular dynamics, optics, metrology, unmanned aircraft engineering and operations, mathematical modelling, space missions and advanced software (artificial intelligence, computation, digital twins, etc.).

Laboratorio de Reología

RHEOLOGY LABORATORY

It has a stress control rheometer (Haake RS600) which allows viscoelastic and flow measurements to be made on a wide range of materials. It also allows analysis of the thermo-rheological behaviour of polymers by means of dynamic tests at constant frequency in a temperature sweep.

UAV LABORATORY

It has drone workshops and equipment for the installation of payloads. In particular, six drones are available: five multi-rotor drones (DJI Matrice 300, DJI Phantom 3, DJI Mavic Mini and liquid dispersion multi-rotor) and one fixed-wing drone (Aerialworks Talon). There are also Sony Nex 7 (RGB), Flir Vue (thermal), Sequoia (multispectral) cameras, as well as a solid-state LiDAR (DJI LIVOX).

OPTICS LABORATORY

Equipped with optical tables, optomechanical components, electronic components, oscilloscopes, mechanical workshop, clean room, vacuum chambers, different types of lasers, etc. The installation of a femto-second laser pulse system stands out.

THERMOPHYSICS LABORATORY

There are three temperature control baths with a working range of -50°C to 200°C. Several pressure lines are also installed, one of which is capable of working up to 5000atm. Three high-precision calorimeters are available, one of which is capable of working at high pressure. In addition, the laboratory is equipped with a high-precision DMA5000 vibrating tube density meter and light scattering equipment. Finally, equipment for high-precision dissolution is available.

CALCULATION CENTER FOR FLUID MECHANICS

We have a cluster with latest generation AMD EPYC 9354 processors (96 threads) and 768 GB of RAM, plus 6 Intel-Xeon E5-2620 workstations with 128 GB RAM.

OPTICAL METROLOGY LABORATORY

It consists of a darkened room with air-conditioned temperature control and a granite table with anti-vibration isolation. He-Ne lasers (5 mW), halogen diode lasers (20 mW @ 659 nm), spectral (Hg) and halogen lamps, various CCD cameras, self-developed software. Optomechanical equipment is also available.
